The last and biggest update launch for Costume Curse is here, The Great Pimpkin is HERE!
We are concluding the development of the beloved action-command adventure game, Costume Curse with a final overhaul and polish of the boss fight and other general polishes within the game. Now the game has about 60-80 minutes of playtime/ There are a lot of new feature, improvements and bug fixes that were added on the new v1.4.3.3 update. Here is a list of all of them since the second major update launch, back in 2021.
New Features:
- New boss character, the Great Pimpkin
- New boss abilities, "Fire Charge" and "Candy Storm"
- Candy Storm is the first enemy ability that contains a user playable mini-game that helps you reduce the damage you receive
- New boss minions, called Dark Pimpkins. They also contain new supercharge asset
- New animated damage indicator for health bar and shield. Now damage of each ability is being displayed
- Waterfall environment assets with sound have been added to the Lost Forest world
- New smog and forest fire particles in graveyard and village have been added
- New Camera offsets for final boss battle
- New witch summoning sequence with effects and sound
- Dialogue bubbles contain the name of the current speaker
- On ally defeat, proper player reset checkpoint has been implemented
- Entirely new epilogue scene with dialogue and credits with return to title screen
Improvements:
- Entirely new animated enhanced title screen with proper credit rolls
- Magic Shield player mini-game contains new arrows and user feedback
- New Magic Tree asset with effects and dialogue
- Revolver ability now contains miss ricochet sound
- Confection ability now has randomized position for ingredients in Brew Stage
- Now candy corn gain or loss is indicated with an animated number indicator to properly show the user how the candy corn is spent
- Thunderstorm cloud has been enhanced as well as its state when a thunder strike occurs
- Smoke and fire particles have been enhanced
- Players and enemies catch fire depending on the type of fire ability they have been attacked with (Orange for supercharge, Red for Fireball, Purple for Dark Supercharge and Fire Charge)
- Dialogue has been overhauled for shack area, lost tree and village
- Major candy corn reward changes
- Battles and learning curve have been rebalanced
- Camera now follows projectile for enemy abilities: Fire Charge and Candy Storm (Great Pimpkin), Supercharge (Pimpkin and other variants), Skelemusic (Skeledoodle and other variants)
Bugfixes:
- Fix a lot of battle camera views, where the camera was not centered in the battle area
- Fix camera offset when boss is activating an ability
- Revolver damage has been corrected and a delay to the last stage has been added
- Fixed confection damage recalculation with delay at the end of the bake stage
- Fix fireball damage calculation
- Fix thunderstorm damage calculation
- Increase thunderstorm cost by 2
- Increase damage cap of thunderstorm
- Increase damage cap and cost of revolver
- Increase cost of confection by 2
- Increase fireball damage
- Fixed Magic Tree collision climbing
- Fixed dialogue crashes
- Fixed dialogue reward collection. Now it is only collected when the dialogue has reached the end and closed
This concludes the end of the development of Costume Curse in Halloween of 2023. It has been quite the journey the past three years. We started this as a school project of six beginner developers and throughout the years it has been developed as a fun wacky project that we improved on in our free time. This felt more than just work, but a relaxing project to work on and continue our passion of making games.
